NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

A couple of new messages. 23.08.2014

Exeter is experiencing a spate of Pedal Cycle theft, members of the public are asked to ensure you lock and secure your bikes when leaving them unattended.

Reports of some bikes being stolen may have been prevented if the bikes had been securely locked.

Don't make it easy for the thief, invest in good quality bike locks and use them. Thank you

Elderly residents throughout the Devon and Cornwall region are being targeted by a national 'telephone fraud' scam.
A person claiming to be a police officer or from your bank will phone and claim your bank card has been used fraudulently.

They may suggest you call your bank to ensure the call is genuine. However, the phone line remains open and the fraudster will take down any banking details you will are asked .

You may also be asked to attend your bank to withdraw a sum of money to given to a local taxi firm or to a courier.

If you receive a phone call of this nature please end the phone call immediately; wait five minutes to clear the line or use another phone and report the offence to police on 101 as soon as possible.

Remember your bank or police will never attend your home to collect your bank card or ask for your PIN number.

Recipients of Community Messaging are asked to make your more elderly and vulnerable neighbours aware of this message. Thank you

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

The Devon and Cornwall Police would like to make you aware of the following countrywide telephone scam. A call comes through from persons purporting to be from the Metropolitan Police stating that your bank account has been compromised by money launderers or their bank card has been used by a person in custody. These people are very convincing. They will tell the victim to hang up and instruct them to call the telephone number on the back of their card. However the line will remain open by the offender so the victim will mistakenly believe they are calling the bank. They are then tricked into disclosing bank information and be instructed to attend the local branch of their bank and withdraw a sum of money and pass it to either a local taxi firm or to a courier sent by the fraudsters to collect the funds or bank cards. Genuine police officers and bank staff will never ask for your PIN number, bank card or cash over the phone. Never give out any personal or bank details to anyone especially unsolicited calls. Please hang up on any similar calls you may receive. Can this message be passed to friends, family and elderly or vulnerable persons that may be convinced to part with bank account, credit card details or cash. Thank you.
